Work continues in Uganda for the new orphanage. Moving from drawings to seeing the structure start to evolve has everyone very excited.
The foundations have been dug and the walls are now starting to take shape.
Kyasira Home of Hope
Kyasira Home of Hope is a Ugandan orphanage located off the Entebbe Road between Kampala and Entebbe. It caters for destitute street children with about 45 living there at present. All welfare, and most health and education in Uganda is provided by religious and faith groups on a charitable basis. Kyasira Home of Hope is run by 4 Religious Sisters from the Order of the Good Samaritan, whose mission is to care for the most needy. They refer to the children as their ‘sons’ and ‘daughters’ and provide a loving environment for them.

Over the past few weeks, Adrian has been speaking with local building contractors to design and plan the next stage of the project.
Initial payments from the trust have been made and the building work has commenced! The trust will continue to ensure that everything is catered for.
You can see from the image below what we aim to achieve.
The building will contain two dormitories – one for the boys and one for the girls, living quarters for the Sisters, kitchens, and storage areas.
Electricity and clean water complete the build which will be a world away from the current amenities the children and staff have at the moment. We aim for completion in October 2012.
Your help to publicise this project would be appreciated with a tweet using the green button above.
Here is a lovely video from our recent trip to the orphanage in Uganda.
The children spend lots of time singing and dancing.
Dr livingstone I presume! The view of Lake Victoria. Winston Churchill described Uganda as ‘the Pearl of Africa’ he wasn’t wrong, 24-28 degrees 12 months a year with adequate rainfall, three harvests a year of many food crops, yet it remains grindingly poor.
Adrian & Rachel Buckley have returned to Uganda to see the orphanage the ABC Trust built in 2013 and planning is well underway for the building of the new school.
The kids at Kyasira looking much happier and healthier than on our last visit. The hens now ensure ensure that each child gets at least four eggs per week, the cows we supplied ensure that they eat porridge made with milk daily, all the roosters are slaughtered to provide meat along with pork from the revamped piggery. We are so pleased with the progress but much remains to be done!
Thando was such a cheeky lovely little chap, the youngest kid at the orphanage, we asked about his circumstances and were told that he arrived with his older brother Tom. His dad was killed in a motorcycle accident and his mother is ill with HIV. Sadly Tom has HIV but cheeky Thando is healthy and infection free.
We will be documenting the trip in the coming weeks.
